Killer old footage...
There's not much footage of John Sykes playing with Whitesnake around and this is actually one of the better recordings I've seen. Definitely a must buy for any John Sykes or Whitesnake fan.
Of questionable legitimacy
The issue here is not the quality of Whitesnake's performance at this 1980's outdoor Japanese heavy metal festival. The line-up heard here is a transitional line-up touring behind the revised U.S.A. mix of "Slide It In", after the exit of guitarist Micky Moody & keyboardist Jon Lord. Vocalist David Coverdale is backed by guitarist John Sykes, bassist Neil Murray & drummer Cozy Powell, with invisible offstage keyboardist Richard Bailey(offstage to underscore that he did not have the status of group member). This program was first released, only in Japan by Nippon Columbia(at the time, an affiliate of the electronics company Denon), who released it as a Laserdisc(and probably also on VHS), and it must be concluded that those are the only releases of this program that are legitimate, legal & official. As for this Argentinian DVD, the American firm that is licensing this program for Argentinian release has arrogantly superimposed their large logo over the upper left hand corner of the...
Whitesnake-Live at Seibu,Tokyo
This was fantastic line up of Whitesnake. The always shredding John Sykes on guitar, one of vocal Gods David Coverdale, Neil Murray on bass and the thundering drums of the late great Cozy Powell. There is a guy who plays keyboards off stage but the core band JUST ROCKS. John Sykes plays guitar solos others could learn from and the Cozy Powell drum solo is a nod to his fantastic orchestral solo albums. You can see the band was having fun and Mr. Coverdale pouts and preens enjoying the adoration of the Japanese fans. This release does not have Coverdale's blessing but that gives this DVD even more appeal. The new Whitesnake-Live at Donnington CD/DVD is a great buy also. Both Recomended. ROCK ON.
