An Episode with Black, Gay Men
As gay people and as people of color, this society and its media often render gay, Black men invisible. But this show takes place in Chicago and Chicago is a Black, gay Mecca. So it was interesting, and slightly unsurprising, that this show would focus an episode on a Black, gay man.
Here's the thing: it has a sad ending. Jill Johnston, in her tome "Lesbian Nation," said, "I'm a member of the Happy Endings for Homosexuals Club!" I really wanted the Black, gay male couple to walk hand in hand into the sunset, but it doesn't happen here. There's a novel out there called "Everything But Love" about a Black, gay character and it frustrated me endlessly because the main character did always have love in his life.
This is important for folk to see outside of many identity issues. There are straight men out there that wanted to be praised for being married family men, but on the hush-hush, they chase skirts and have all kinds of bush babies. One gay, Black man here wanted to...
